The Goat Inn has been causing a bit of a stir in the last year or so: we came joint second in The Best Restaurant in Hertfordshire competition as voted for by readers of Hertfordshire Life and presented by the St Albans District Chamber of Commerce. The cometition was between 50 restaurants - that's a lot of restaurants, so we're very proud. They said of us:
"..this ancient building in Sopwell Lane is now home to a pub which serves exceptionally good fresh food, sourced locally where possible, at a very reasonable price. You will be assured a friendly welcome and an excellent meal."
In addition to being one of the best restaurants in St Albans (not bad for a pub!), The Goat inn was also voted the best of 16 pubs on the St Albans-Watford railway trail, and was voted the second best railway pub in the entire country, receiving the Community Rail Awards 2007 Certificate of Excellence.
